Neighbourhood Knits Project

The Neighbourhood Knits Project was started with a grant from the Vancouver Foundation by members of the Pacific Park Place Housing Cooperative Knitting Group.

The project is designed to provide yarn, needles and patterns to anybody in the neighbourhood to knit a scarf, mitts or a cap for those in need, whether homeless or recovering from a life-threatening illness.

The emblem is designed to express the idea of a tight-knit community and the larger goal of bringing everybody, from the fortunate to the marginalized, together through shared and charitable activity.

The stylized emblem is contrasted with the vernacular, heavy serifed Clarendon typeface which conveys open friendliness as well as firm intent. It reproduces well on low-resolution devices which the group relies on for all their printing needs.

The work involved the creation of the emblem and full logotype, as well as the poster and the operational forms that were required to keep track of the participants’ projects and materials. Business card sized donation cards will be attached to the completed items for distribution through existing charitable organizations.
