Kompass is a typeface that explores the possibilities of type for labelling functions, the constraints of which are many and strict.
The type has distinct and clear forms with no superfluous details that could render the image or type unclear. It is scalable and read clearly at small sizes.
Ascenders must project far enough from the body of the letter form to distinguish it from its counterparts but not extend so far as to intrude on any information in the map, diagram or product label on which it appears.
The uppercase I has the tiniest of serifs in order to distinguish it from the lowercase l. The bar on the letter f and the beak on the r have uncommon reach and the front leg of the capital R is a departure from the usual mode for sans-serif typefaces.
